We want to introduce you to Allison, a very special client from our local spa in Richmond, Tao Day Spa. Allison is the Creative Arts Director at Callanish, a community in Vancouver that creates a healing space for people who have been irrevocably changed by cancer. The important work she does and her personal story is an inspiration to us, and we’re honoured to have been a part of her skincare journey of healing after cancer.

I was diagnosed with Leukemia and received a stem cell transplant in my late 20’s. Despite the immense amount of support I had at home, I felt overwhelmed and alone. I needed to connect with other younger adults that knew what it felt like to receive this devastating diagnosis. I attended the younger adult support group at Callanish as well as many of their other programs, including their week-long retreat. Callanish had a profound impact on my healing back then and has continued to inspire me ever since. Over the years, I have evolved my relationship with Callanish from a participant to a volunteer and finally by joining the team as a clinical counsellor and creative arts director.

Chemo, radiation and early menopause had affected my skin, and given my cancer history, it was important for me to find someone who worked with natural skincare products. When I was looking for someone to help me with my skincare, my friend recommended that I see Love & Natural founder, Winnie. She has been incredible, not just because my skin looks good but because I have always felt like my whole health matters to her. Winnie understood the impact my treatments had on my skin and adjusted my skincare accordingly. I have tried many natural products before, but nothing has worked as well as the combination of products that Winnie has curated for me.

I found that my face consistently had more moisture. In the past, my skin would go through times throughout the year where it would be dry, or I would have little breakouts here and there. Since working with Winnie and using Love & Natural products, my skin has stayed more consistent and healthy. Winnie has helped me feel like I am doing the best I can to take care of my skin in the healthiest way possible and also that having some fine lines doesn’t mean your skin isn’t healthy, glowing and beautiful.
